Yes, these are the highest grade Data center drives and can be used anywhere.

What is the meaning of Limited Warranty ?

Limited warranty means that each passing year, you got partial value of your drives back. If its 5 years limited warranty, you get full replacement in first year, 75% value in second year and 50% Value in the third year.

What interface are WD ultrastar Available ?

WD Ultrstar is available in SATA and SAS.

Are there 4K native drives in Ultrastar ?

Yes, you can order 512e or 4K native drives in both SATA and SAS.

What are the encryptions available on WD Ultrastar Drives ?

You can have TCG encryption, Secure Erase or TCG encryption with FIPS in SAS drives. Our price list doesn't have all the models, but ask us for what your requirement is and we will be able to offer an appropriate drive.

Lets break down a part number to easily understand

H= Helim ( S = Standard) All the drives from 1 to 8 tb ( and new 10TB AIR) have S. 12,14 TB have H to denote helium platform
72= 7200 RPM
1414 = 14TB full capacity , 14TB capacity of this model. ( 1412 would mean 14 full capacity and 12tb capacity of this model)
AL = generation, height
42= interface. (52 = 512e SAS, E6= 512e SATA, N6= 4kn SATA, 42 = 4Kn SAS)
0 = power Diable
5 = Encryption ( 1 = TCG, 4 = Secure Erase, 5 = TCG/FIPS)

What is the relation between WD ultrastar and HGST/Hitachi Ultrastar

WD Acquired HGST( Hitachi Global Data Systems) Ultrastar in 2012. All the Ultrastar Drives are now sold as WD ultrastar instead of HGST Ultrastar.

What is the difference between WD Gold and WD Ultrastar drives, they are both Enterprise drives.

WD Gold is Enterprise Class but geared towards the channel sales. For large project and implementations, Ultrastar is more suitable becuase of following reasons
1. Ultrastar Is Available in SAS and SATA. Gold is available only in SATA
2. Ultastar can be ordred in 512e, 512n ( in lower caps) and 4Kn . Gold format is fixed and can't be changed ( 512n/512e)
3. Ultrastar Can be had in TCG, SE, FIPS encryptions unlike Gold.
